Having recently undergone surgery, I was fortunate enough to have Dr. Meskin as my surgeon. From the moment we met, I was immediately struck by his personable, warm and compassionate, bedside manner. Dr. Meskin exuded a sincere care for my well-being and took the time to explain the procedure in a way that was both informative and comforting. His ability to alleviate my anxiety and establish a strong patient doctor connection is truly commendable. Furthermore, I was pleasantly surprised by Dr. Meskin’s wonderful sense of humor, which played a crucial role in creating a positive and relaxed atmosphere. His exceptional blend of professionalism and humor helped alleviate my pre-surgery, anxiety, making the entire experience, more manageable and less daunting. In addition to exceptional surgical skills, Dr. Meskin demonstrated remarkable dedication and commitment to postoperative care. His attentiveness and genuine concern for my well-being made a significant impact on my overall experience, and a very positive experience during a vulnerable time. A shining example of the medical profession at its finest.

Dr. Meskin is my Panel QME. He is kind and understands. He listens and explains things very well without making you feel stupid. I highly recommend him.

Dr. Meskin answered all my questions and even gave me a few lists of better shoes and insoles for various activities (running, casual, hiking etc.)

I broke my ankle in March 2018 at work and was assigned to Dr. Meskin by my worker's comp insurance. I ended up needing surgery, and I couldn't be happier with the results! Dr. Meskin did a wonderful job with the surgery, and I recovered much quicker than originally expected. Now, almost a year later, I'm still doing great. I still have some stiffness, but that probably has more to do with the cold weather reacting with my "bionic" ankle than anything else. I'm really glad I had such an experienced and cool surgeon, thanks, Dr. Meskin!
H.S. (San Francisco) 03/06/19
I was referred to Dr. Meskin by a highly respected orthopedic colleague of his. The exact quote was, "Dr. Meskin is the only one I trust." He was able to help when most specialists would not take on a case like mine. The initial injury was about 15 months ago. I am happy to recommend this Doctor and his staff. He does not promise miracles and I believe he is realistic about what is possible. He is a careful listener. If you need help with your foot or ankle, he is a very good choice.
M.H. (Monterey) 06/14/18
My son was referred to Dr. Meskin for an acute ankle sprain, and fracture. We have seen him several times now and each time, I feel even more comfortable with him! He treats the patient (and family) as people and not just a medical case. At today's visit, he explained that my son's condition is rather complicated and we need another opinion. PLUS he asked me to do some homework too!! I appreciate that because other doctors have told me that they don't like their patients doing their own research. You may have several appointments before you finally get an answer to your condition and the appropriate course of treatment, but he does NOT rush into anything. His office staff is very competent too!!

Easily one of the best Doc visits I've ever had. It was my first appt. with Dr. Meskin after using another sports ankle DPM for a number of years after a history of injuries (and luckily I could use his Oakland office hours during the week instead of trekking into the city). Dr. Meskin was focused, present, listened to/answered all of my questions, and educated me on how to maximize recovery/preventative protection so I can stay 100% active. Unlike a lot of outfits, he's clearly in it to help folks/practice medicine. No extra appts to get more co-pays, no expensive no rx products sold through his office - he even gave me the background info on some other support products I've been sold by less scrupulous doctors - what they're appropriate for and what they're not, where you can get comparable stuff for a fraction of the cost without going through a doctor, etc. Easily the most informative and eye opening doc appt I've had, and while I hope I don't need to go in for any kind of catastrophic injury, I look forward to the next check up/advice session when I need help with a specific sports plan.

Thank you so much for the time you spent with me yesterday! Thank you for taking a holistic approach with me, and especially taking the time to review the other medical issues going on with me. It’s always good to see you! I love that you are so down to earth, full of wisdom, integrity and competence!
Bri. C. (Santa Cruz) 3/25/17
It is hard to find a doctor that you both trust and like. I have been with Dr. Meskin now for about 6 years, and he has never let me down. He has always been kind, helpful, knowledgeable, and taken the time to take care of me. I feel like most doctors are in a rush, and don't take the time to ask all of the right questions before they come up with an action plan. But Dr. Meskin is the opposite, he is GREAT. I highly recommend him!
Ramie. S. (Daly City) 1/13/2017
One of the best doctors I have had the pleasure to meet. Super compassionate, efficient and great bedside manner. Dr. Meskin always makes time to answer questions and concerns in person, over the phone and by email. He has taken care of myself, my son and many of my family. You can't go wrong with him!
Brandon. R. (San Francisco) 11/20/16
Dr. Meskin helped me get back to Iron man! I had 3 surgeries with Dr. Meskin, ankle, bunion and hammertoe. Dr. Meskin was able to see me in his office ASAP. Whenever, I had a question and Dr. Meskin was not in the office, he was available via email. If I had a follow-up question, Dr. Meskin had me email photos of my recovery and answered all my questions right way (even late at night). Since my surgeries with Dr. Meskin I have completed 12 Iron man races! If I ever have new foot or ankle issues there is only 1 Doctor I would consider calling. Thank you Dr. M!
Valerie. B. (W. Hollywood) 5/2/16
Words cannot express what a gift Dr. Meskin is. Not only was he able to see me last minute on a day-of emergency but he offered an excellent diagnosis with options for treatment during my first time having a foot issue (fracture). Truly a relief when you realize how bad an experience can be with doctors in this field. His staff were very professional and organized as well. I plan on recommending any of my friends that need this service, a huge thanks to this office!
Carrie. W. (San Francisco) 3/7/2016
Dr. Meskin is great podiatrist and has such good social skills for a Doctor. I am a nurse, and I have seen the work of quite a few podiatrists out in the community, and he is on my "recommend to patients list" for sure. I became his patient about 2 months ago after I suffered a heel/foot fracture that did not require surgery, but did require a long period of wound care/monitoring when the accident also caused a severe deep tissue injury. He has been super responsive whenever I have had concerns, and has been a wonderful patient advocate quite a few times; He was able to call in an ultrasound at CPMC to be done as soon as I arrived there from his office when I told him I had leg cramping and concerns about deep vein thrombosis. Another time, he was on the horn to radiology right away when he noticed a delay in MRI results reported to him when I was first injured and did not know the extent of the injury (he sent me updates even over the weekend). Dr. Meskin also got me into a PT program a lot more quickly than I would have normally going through what my insurance originally mandated. He was patient and reassuring when I told him how worried I was about the healing process (nurses always expect the worst). Really good at explaining things. You can't beat that service and caring! My injury is healing well and I am in good hands.

I've seen Dr. Meskin for over 20 years for various foot injuries and problems. He's always been extremely compassionate and competent. He was originally recommended by my primary care physician to help me with a torn plantar fascia. I had seen several other healthcare providers prior to Dr. Meskin, with no success. Dr. Meskin, over a 6 month period, provided the appropriate care and guidance to mend my injury. I finally was able to walk again without a boot and crutches! In more recent visits to his office, Dr. Meskin conservatively suggested, after an MRI and Xray review, that a torn ligament, should be first treated with PT, as to build up the surrounding muscles, before an operation be considered. He was correct, the PT helped considerably and I no longer having any issues with this foot. Thanks Dr. Meskin for your care over the past few decades.

I've been seeing Dr. Meskin for several years and highly recommend him as a podiatrist and surgeon. Total rock-star specialist, brilliant MD & great bedside manner. Very rare to find MD this competent that still obviously cares so deeply about each patient they see.

Over the last 15 years, Dr. Barry Meskin, has helped with several foot issues I've had. I recently saw him. Didn't have to wait (hate waiting but I realize sometimes the world doesn't revolve around me and other things can come up and delay doctors). I liked his manner and style. Seemed quite knowledgeable. He has good follow-up too. Some questions came to me later that I forgot to ask and he was excellent at answering and following up.

Dr. Meskin is an excellent foot and ankle surgeon. He correctly diagnosed me with a broken bone in the foot and soft tissue trauma after two other doctors misdiagnosed my swollen foot and ankle as "gout." Dr. Meskin's exams are thorough, and he takes the time to ask questions and listen to your answers without becoming rushed and impatient. He ordered a deep vein ultrasound to search for blood clots, something that the other two doctors failed to do. He also ordered blood tests to rule out the possibility of other physical causes for the foot and ankle swelling, so he considers your overall health when providing a diagnosis. Dr. Meskin's diagnostic approach is thorough, and he takes the time to answer all of your questions without making you feel rushed through your appointment. I am extremely pleased with the care I received from him, and I recommend him without reservation.
Liz. J. (San Francisco) 3/10/2011
To make a long story short, I needed to find the best doctor for my son, who had recently tore his ankle up pretty bad. Thank god my friend told me about Dr. Meskin! My son severely tore his ligaments and tendons during a football injury and had plans to continue playing football for his college where he had made the football team. Dr. Meskin wasted no time in setting up proper care for him. His dedication to my sons recovery was just the icing on the cake. Scheduling surgery for him was his up most concern, which was an easy process, thanks to his staff. The surgery was a success, and thanks to Dr. Meskin's extreme standard of care, my son healed up nicely and had a successful first year on his team.

Dr. Meskin is one of the coolest doctors I've ever met. He not only knows his stuff, he is very down to earth and kind. I have to have surgery in the coming weeks and he's explained everything along the way, so I know when I'm getting in to. *Awesome Doctor *Cool Guy with sense of humor (even when you’re crying) *Will always fit you in his busy schedule! I love DR MESKIN!! :)

I've seen Dr. Meskin for three (unrelated, clutz-related) ankle breaks over the past 6 years. He's amazing, he listens, and he really does care. He's got a great sense of humor and treats you with respect. He doesn't waste time and will get you to the proper X-Rays/CT scans when needed and his follow-up with appointments and paperwork is amazingly quick. I wish he was able to be my GP as I would love to have a quality doctor as good as he is--it's too bad I only get to see him when I hurt my foot!
David Lopez (San Francisco) 10/14/2009
Great Doctor! I broke my leg near the ankle during MMA training and Dr. Meskin casted it right up. He was very helpful and patient when I went on and on, shooting off question after question. At the end of my session I had a very good understanding of what happened to my leg and ankle. Of what to do and what not to do. Dr. Meskin is super knowledgeable and sincerely caring. I recommend him for sure. The front desk clerk Kathleen was also very professional and caring! Thank you all.
Julie. W. (Canyon) 3/20/2009
I was recommended to Dr. Meskin through a friend after seeing two podiatrist who insisted I needed surgery on my foot. Surgery just wasn't an option as I'm a hard core runner and training for my 10th marathon. Dr. Meskin is an excellent podiatrist who truly listened to my concerns and we were able to solve my problem by custom made orthotics, not surgery as the other doctors suggested. I love my orthotics and even purchased a second pair for my work shoes and my feet have never felt better. I would highly recommend Dr. Meskin to anyone looking for a decent, correct, solid diagnosis and his follow-up care was exceptional.
Louise. C. (Sacramento) 2/26/2009
Dr. Barry Meskin operated on my foot several weeks ago. The foot is now remarkably healed and although four screw had to be inserted there is hardly any scar. Not only do I feel Dr. Meskin is a very thoughtful, compassionate, and encouraging physician, he also takes the time to really listen to his patients. I believe him to be extremely capable, intelligent and highly skilled. A very impressive combination and especially true of Dr. Meskin. I would highly recommend him without any reservations whatsoever.
Don. S. (San Francisco) 2/25/2009
Dr. Meskin is a superb podiatrist with respect to both his professional skills and bedside manner. After another local podiatrist botched a routine foot surgery and thereafter caused further complications with poor post-operative care, I was fortunate enough to see Dr. Meskin for a second opinion. He diagnosed the problem properly, with great candor and compassion. He encouraged me to communicate with him throughout the course of treatment and was extraordinarily responsive and helpful. I concur with the sentiments expressed by the other reviewers here and recommend Dr. Meskin highly and without any reservation.
Joe. S. (San Francisco) 4/21/2009
I can't say much more that the other reviewers didn't. This guy is the best. He really knows feet and only resorts to surgery after all other options have been exhausted.
Tiberius. A. (San Francisco) 7/30/2008
Busted my ankle. Dr. Meskin successfully "installed" one plate and four screws to fix my fibula. Again, another doc that entertained my request to remain awake for my surgery and only received a spinal. (Yeah, it has become a fetish - being awake during surgery - lol!!!) Been three years since that surgery and the ankle is doing great!
Henry. F. (San Francisco) 11/23/2008
Thoughtful, good listener, nice guy - assessed my gait and recommended Superfeet insoles - he is a runner and understands runners :) - no paperwork hassles or office issues - go now - smart - took his time and listened to me - explained my foot issue well, in detail - cool dude - 2 office locations, not just Castro but also off Van Ness, near downtown - fun office staff -analyzed my running shoes and offered good advice -gave me lots of samples too!
Rachel. W. (San Francisco) 12/23/2008
Cannot agree more with the first two so far!!! Professional and straight shooter. No BS. I saw about 4 different Pods and 3 different Orthos. I saw this Meskin Doc, got a lecture in biology 101, he ordered radiology, he gave me shot, ordered a RX, and I am back to running and tennis. I have subsequently thrown away 3 pair of orthotics which did squat for me, not to mention wasting my time and money.

I can't say much more that the other reviewers didn't. This guy is the best. He really knows feet and only resorts to surgery after all other options have been exhausted.
